Another Blackwolf Awards Show Rant!
Well, Mortals, it has been a week since the Academy Awards, and now that your Dragonmaster has a little breathing space here, methinks I'd better lay me opinionated Wizardly reputation on the line once more by saying something I've been trying to get across for some months (about 24 1/2 of them, to be exact): The time has come, my dears, to pull the plug on the MTV Video Music Awards.
If you've troubled to read my previous remarks on MTV, and I hope you have, you already know that MTV is no longer a music video channel in the truest sense of the phrase. It no longer upholds, let alone lives up to, the principles that gave it its name nearly three decades ago. Having an awards show which salutes excellence in music videos on a channel that no longer plays music videos is not only an anachronism, it's also bloody foolish, by Merlin's beard. And what makes the problem even worse is the fact that there exists an untapped, behind-the-scenes world of music video production, largely ignored by you the public. Put simply, that world MUST be brought into light, and by another entity capable of making a full commitment to music video coverage. That entity must not be MTV any longer.
There used to be a time when you Mortals held sacred excellence in the technical arts of television and radio. Alas, those days are no more; and, in its present form, the MTV Video Music Awards is a poor reminder of that truth. The MTV Video Music Awards is a dinosaur. There, I said it. If you want to experience the REAL future of music video, spend your time at YouTube. Have I not said, after all, that YouTube is now THE ultimate power in the music video Multiverse?
As always, America, I wanna know what you think. Gimme an e-mail at either electric_pirates@hotmail.com or blackbeardian@yahoo.com.
