Today's Guest Blogger: Lady Liberty!

Bon jour, mes amis! I, of course, am Liberty Enlightening the World --- the greenest, purest-hearted, most beautiful woman in New York harbor. Considering that this is the weekend of Independence Day, the wise Wizard, Blackwolf, has asked me to say a few words to the people of the Nation I love with all my heart.

America has always been a wonderful, spectacular place. And now, at age 230, there are more reasons to love it than ever before: Right now, for example, the good ship Godspeed is docked at the South Street Seaport to celebrate the 400th Anniversary of the Jamestown Settlement in Virginia. Of course, earlier in the year, my dear friend Ben Franklin had his own 300th Birthday; I remain, as you might expect, very happy indeed for Monsieur Ben.

You may also be aware by now that I am somewhat lonely, as my two big protectors are no longer here to stand with me. For now, I must make do with two bright, bold searchlights to guide the night as I stand alone. But there are one or two things about being the Statue of Liberty that are, I have to admit, a lot of fun! For example, do you all remember little Fievel Mousekevitz, from the American Tail Adventures? He still likes to tell his grandchildren about the very first day he saw me --- and how I, in spite of standing tall and proudly, managed to wink at the little fellow. Fievel loves America as much as any other mouse, and I hope that other mice follow his noble example.

Then, of course, there was that weirdest moment I've ever had ---- that New Year's Eve when those deliciously wild and crazy Ghostbusters filled every last inch of me with all that so-called 'positively-charged slime' so that I could save my adopted home (not to mention the world) from the machinations of the evil Carpathian spirit Vigo. Oh boy, was that an adventure or what? Only a Mortal like Dr. Peter Venkman would dare come on to me the way he did --- well, being from New York, I did have to expect that, you know.

The biggest fun I get each 4th of July is when Macy*s gets to shoot off all those fireworks all around me! They've been at it 30 years now, and I always like to enjoy the musical soundtracks they plan each year. Sometimes I shed a tear because the moments are so touching --- and..... well, they're moments that make me proud to enlighten the cause of Freedom among the nations of the world. It's enough to make me green with joy (Well, you couldn't expect me to be green with envy, now could you?)

Anyway, let me remind all my friends that I have never forgotten the world or what my mission has been all this century or so. For I am the Mother of Exiles; and though many have said both good and bad things about me, I continue to greet the tired, the poor, the huddled masses yearning to breathe free --- and no amount of nastiness will ever take that away!

Yours most sincerely,

L.E.W.
