Stoick the Vast Guest-Blogs Again!
Greetings, intruders, from the Isle of Berk!
Hey, look who's back as the #1 movie in America! Didn't I, mighty and powerful Stoick the Vast, Chieftain of the Hairy Hooligans, tell you that we Vikings will go to any lengths to stay #1? (Heh-heh-heh!) How to Train Your Dragon is finding new fans every week, and I, for one, couldn't be any prouder of my boy Hiccup than I already am! (That means you, too, Toothless!)
Still, to be honest with you intruders, and let's face it, this is hard for even me to say: we're just keeping the fire warm until the Big Green One shows up. That, of course, would be Shrek. Shrek: Forever After has been chosen as this year's Opening Night Selection at the Tribeca Film Festival; and already that sumgun Armand White, Chairman of the New York Film Critics Circle, has called it 'shlock' (to which I say, "Lemme at him!"); and is bound, I suspect, to have a few more brickbats thrown its way.
But let me say this: Shrek may not have been the first of us Superstars of DreamWorks Animation (last I checked, that honor belongs to a neurotic little ant named Z), but if it weren't for Shrek, we wouldn't have the status we do now! Oh yeah: and we wouldn't have our own Oscar Night category, that of Best Animated Feature, either --- and who do you think won the very first one, huh? That's right, Shrek!
So if I were you, I'd start getting serious about respecting the power of the ogre. Look at it this way: everybody respects the ogre, nobody's head gets bashed in. We clear on that? Still, and, uh .... on a sort of personal note here, let me say: Shrek, we owe you a whole lot, Big Fella. We, your colleagues in DreamWorks Animation's Family of Superstars, are honored that you and Fiona, Donkey, Dragon and Puss opened doors for us in ways we didn't believe existed. We here on the Island of Berk are proud to be the heralds for your farewell to the big screen!
See you intruders soon (Sniffle!). I'm sort of getting a little emotional here.....
