Strange Thoughts About the Queen
Sometimes I wonder if Canada is too weird for even Blackwolf the Dragonmaster. Please observe the following, from the pages of The Scotsman of Edinburgh:
The Queen is unlikely to be amused. A bizarre row has seen the octogenarian Monarch pull out of the opening ceremony of a Canadian military show amid fears that Her Majesty is too old to tackle a flight of stairs.
The Queen and Prince Philip were supposed to addressing the opening night ceremony of the Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo at Halifax during their tour of Canada this year. That visit, however, has been scuppered after Tattoo organizers said that it was far too risky for the Queen and her Consort to climb onto the stage --- despite having been told that both were perfectly capable of doing so.
"The Canadian Secretary said that it was the expressed wish of Buckingham Palace [that the Queen go up the stairs], and that if we wouldn't permit her to do it, she wouldn't be there," said Ian Fraser, the Tattoo's Producer and Artistic Director.
At the risk of being a dum-dum here, dearests: Methinks those at the RNSIT are, dare I say it, chicken! Well, take comfort in this, Your Majesty: Tartanweek in New York City is but a mere week away. Perhaps you might wish to detour to ye Byg Appyl, that you might see your dear Presiding Officer of the Scottish Parliament, Mr. Alex Fergusson, serving as our Grand Marshal during our 12th Annual Tartan Saturday Afternoon Parade. (And do hop in on it quickly, as it is, as ever, one of those very rare 'blink-and-you'll-miss-it' happenings that can only occur in New York!)
