WORLD EXCLUSIVE! Blackwolf Predicts: YouTube Buys U.S. Rights to Video Music Awards

As we approach this Sunday night's MTV Video Music Awards, I find myself once more forced to address the issue of the event's relevancy, much less its presence on a channel that, for all intents and purposes, is no longer a music video channel in the truest sense of the phrase.

You have heard your Dragonmaster kvetch many times before as to what purpose the VMAs in their current form now serves. Despite my recent Press Release announcing that I was joining Lady Gaga's vast army of "little monsters," the sad truth remains: We have now reached a point whereby the Video Music Awards no longer serves its intended purpose; as an awards show, the statuette is an afterthough at best, an instrument of kitsch at worst.

Having said all that, after careful consideration and pondering, I have come to the conclusion that MTV no longer needs the VMAs. Indeed, I see the coming of a new corporate management at MTV --- one that answers directly to Viacom Chairman Sumner Redstone. Sooner or later, the decision WILL have to be made; and I predict that the decision will be thus:

In order to maintain its relevance, to say nothing of its continued existence, I see all U.S./North American rights to the name, property, franchise, and concept of the Video Music Awards being sold ---- to the one entity that, as of now, is the REAL music power in the Multiverse --- YouTube!

C'mon, guys --- doesn't it make sense that the Video Music Awards should belong with YouTube: an entity that, to date, has made more superstars out of more mere Mortals than MTV and American Idol combined! Were YouTube to assume control of the VMAs now, the franchise rights alone would make Google, YouTube's parent company, rich beyond estimation!

And the be-a-star factor would certainly help, say I! I doubt that there have been as many chances for average Joes and Janes to just make a video, post it on YouTube --- and suddenly --- Instant Superstardom!

Bringing the VMAs under YouTube's control would certainly benefit everybody; and certainly would make the party far more interesting.

As always, America, I wanna know what you think. E-mail me at electric_pirates@hotmail.com or blackbeardian@yahoo.com.
