A Blackwolf Rant: Deathly Hallows and the Case For and Against Harry Potter
From the June 27th Newsday:
Potterdom found itself in a frenzy on Friday when a grammatically challenged Internet poster calling himself Gabriel claimed to have pirated an e-copy of J.K. Rowling's hotly anticipated seventh and final volume, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.
Gabriel posted the supposed plot spoilers on the Full Disclosure e-mail list, at www.InSecure.org. Among his revelations: That one of among the saga's beloved triumviate of Hogwarts heroes dies at the hands of the evil Voldemort; and that at book's end, another popular secondary character does not live to see the dawn of a liberated Hogwarts.
The hacker said that his motivation was to make reading Deathly Hallows "useless and boring." He added that he was inspired by Pope Benedict XVI, who objected to the Potter novels while he was still Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, who had said that they could potentially corrupt the Christian faith in young people......
Y'know, Mortals, I don't know about you, but frankly, I am sick and tired of all of you who have accused the Potter books of instilling paganism and witchcraft in children and young adults. When are you gonna learn that there are others who simply no longer care about what these fools believe? I have long ago given up assessing the battle between Harry Potter and the religious right because it is no longer a relevant issue worth exploring --- not to me, not to Harry's legions of fans, and cetainly not to Magic-users across the cosmos, who clearly know the difference between using Magic both responsibly and irresponsibly. By Merlin's beard, when are you gonna get a bloomin' life?!?!
For cryin' out loud, the world has better things to do than call a saga like Harry Potter 'useless and boring.' There are other books this idiot Gabriel can read that are not useless or boring; and I sincerely urge him, whoever he is, to turn himself in immediately, because should he fail to do so, there are lawyers on The Lady Rowling's side, and I, for one, would be among the last to dare to tangle with the like of them!
As always, America, I wanna know what your stand is on this. Gimme an e-mail at either electric_pirates@hotmail.com or blackbeardian@yahoo.com.
