Blackwolf Previews the Indy 500!

Well, Mortals, Memorial Day Weekend be 'pon us --- and if there be ESPN/ABC Sports on thy brain, and don't even THINK of denying that there be, thou knowst it be time to race to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, whose Centennial this happens to be. Hence the theme of this year's Indy 500 Festival --- Embrace the Pace! Celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. ABC Sports' coverage of the 94th Annual Indy 500 kicks off at noon Eastern, 9 am Pacific next Sunday, with Brent Musberger as anchor.

Meanwhile, over on Vs., highlights from the 2010 Indy 500 Festival Parade will be the focus of a 90-minute special, airing this coming Saturday, beginning at 5:30 pm Eastern. (Those of you preferring live coverage; that is scheduled for noon local time, on WISH-TV/DT; and at the WISH website, WISHtv.com.) And they've chosen well, I think, in terms of this year's Parade Grand Marshals: The NCAA Men's Division 1 College Basketball Squad from Butler, those badass Bulldogs, who almost pulled off an unprecedented Final Four upset earlier this spring (Fie 'pon ye, vile Coach K! Fie 'pon ye, vile Duke Blue Devils! Fie, fie, fie!!!).

Nonetheless, the Dogs of Butler will headline a joyous celebration of their status as 2010's most unlikely cardiac kids --- and there's a whole bunch of celebrity guest stars backing them up, too: The Pointer Sisters; GMA's Robin Roberts; Krista White, winner of this season's session of the CW's America's Next Top Model; AJ Price, Jeff Foster and Josh McRoberts from the NBA's Indiana Pacers; Sesame Street's Elmo and Rosita; Hanna-Barbera/Cartoon Network's Flintstones and the Powerpuff Girls (what in thunder happen'd to them, I wonder?); not to mention Purdue University's All-American Marching Band; the Speedway, IN High School Sparkplug Regiment and Color Guard; Fred Hill's Briefcase Brigade; the Indy 500 Shriners Club; the Indy 500 Gordon Bagpipers (based, ironically, in the nearby town of Greenwood!) --- and ruling over it all, Queen Brooke Dorsett and her Princesses, Lauren Mummert and Katie Fox!

My goodness, that's a lot for ye NASCAR dads-to-be to look forward to, eh what? Then again, your Dragonmaster has long been an observer of that breed of male known as rednecks; I continue to marvel at just how incredibly powerful they truly are. So, if thou wouldst, O noble dudes, pray, crack ye open a brewski wi' me a Sunday from hence, and let's watch some kick-ass cars burn some rubber! Vrooooommmmm!!!!
