Pondering the Fall of the News Corporation
Clearly, in spite of all that has been happening this week, your dear Dragonmaster cannot escape from the current big news: the hacking scandal that has claimed the life of the 168-year-old News of the World tabloid, and has several Mortals secretly proposing to boycott the News Corporation's U.S. operations, notably Fox News, The Wall Street Journal, the New York Post and the various Fox networks and stations.
Inevitably, I knew I'd have to put me two cents in on this, so here goes:
Once again, we face Voldemort's dictum that "There is neither good nor evil; there is only power, and those too weak to seek it." Rupert Murdoch, Sumner Redstone, Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg: these are the most powerful Mortals in the Multiverse. Some of these men know what it means to use power; but have they ever understood what it means to use power responsibly? There are a good many of us out there who have not asked that question; perhaps it be time for an auld Wizard like meself to start pursuing such thoughts.
Power and responsibility are important things, to be certain; but I can only hope in the end that there should be much wisdom among Humankind whereby both power and responsibility should be properly appreciated. But then again, as ever, this is no more than a case of a crotchety auld Mage simply rambling on needlessly. But eventually, there will be something in the end for all you goodly gentles to think about.
Well, enough from my mouth, dearests. Doubtless you have other ideas to share. Well, you know where to send 'em so I can read 'em: electric_pirates@hotmail.com or blackbeardian@yahoo.com.
